Overview
This is a research project that reads the undocumented MEMS accelerometer and gyroscope in Apple Silicon MacBooks. According to the project, these sensors are managed by the sensor processing unit and can be accessed through IOKit HID. It is written in Python and lists several apps and tools that others have built on top of it, such as typing-sound and tap-detection utilities.
Key features
- Reads accelerometer and gyroscope data on Apple Silicon MacBooks
- Accesses the sensors through IOKit HID
- Written in Python
- Lists third-party apps built on the sensor data
Best for
Hobbyists and researchers who want raw motion data from a MacBook. The sensors are undocumented, so behavior may differ across models.
