Overview

rio-mbtiles is a plugin for the Rasterio command line that exports a raster dataset into an MBTiles SQLite file. The input can use any coordinate reference system and needs at least three bands. It reprojects automatically and generates tiles concurrently, so a raster can be turned into tiles for a tiled map with one command.

Key features

  • Exports rasters to MBTiles in a SQLite file
  • Automatic reprojection from any input coordinate system
  • Concurrent tile generation with a configurable worker count
  • JPEG, PNG or WEBP tiles, optional alpha, zoom range and cutline

Best for

Users who need to turn a raster into MBTiles from the command line. The README says it suits small to medium sources of about 1 GB.
