Overview

real-time-maps is a reference architecture for showing live data on Mapbox maps. It accompanies Mapbox's Real-time Mapping solution page and explains how the pieces fit together. The included example is an election map of US counties that change color as a server reports voter participation. The data is based on historic turnout and animated with simulated poll-closing times. You run it locally with a Mapbox access token and can swap in your own tileset and style.

Key features

  • Election example with counties updating live from a server
  • Three parts: web client, SSE server and data scripts
  • Joins tiled geometry with real-time data on the client
  • Steps to upload sample data and use your own tileset

Best for

Developers who want a working model for streaming data onto a Mapbox map. The demo uses simulated data, so expect to replace the data source for real use.
