Overview

carmen-cache is a low-level C++ storage layer for the carmen geocoder. In forward geocoding, from text to coordinates, it looks up the tiles where each part of a query occurs and works out which occurrences roughly line up in space. This is done in C++ to save disk, memory and time, while the rest of the process stays in carmen.

Key features

  • Stores index keys mapped to grid values and language numbers
  • Read-write MemoryCache used while building indexes
  • Read-only RocksDBCache used for queries
  • Lookups by key and language, with penalties for language mismatch

Best for

Developers working on or extending the carmen geocoder who need to know how its index storage works. It is a supporting module for carmen, not a general geocoder.
