Overview
carmen-core is the low-level storage library behind the Carmen geocoding engine. The core is written in Rust and lives in the rust-src folder, while a JavaScript wrapper built as a Node native module lets Carmen call it. It handles the data work so that the higher-level geocoder can search places quickly. You build it with cargo and yarn, and the JS bindings can download a prebuilt binary for your platform when one is available.
Key features
- Rust backend storage library for the Carmen geocoder
- JavaScript wrapper through Node native bindings
- Prebuilt binaries can be fetched during yarn install
- Rust tests run with cargo test
Best for
Contributors and maintainers working on Carmen internals. The README notes that node-gyp needs Python 2, and a Rust stable toolchain is required.
