Overview

Shamrock is a general-purpose hydrodynamics simulation code for astrophysics, aimed at high performance computing. It is written in C++20, and accelerated parts use SYCL, which can compile to CUDA, ROCM, OpenMP, OpenCL and more. It supports multiple GPUs and heterogeneous clusters through MPI, and scales from laptops to very large supercomputers. Methods include SPH and AMR. A Docker image and online documentation are available.

Key features

  • Hydrodynamics methods including SPH and AMR
  • SYCL acceleration targeting CUDA, ROCM, OpenMP and OpenCL
  • Multi-GPU and cluster runs through MPI
  • Docker image and Sphinx documentation with a quickstart

Best for

Astrophysics researchers who need fluid simulations that run on anything from a laptop to a supercomputer. Building from source needs submodules and a SYCL toolchain.
