Overview
Strands Agents is an open-source SDK for building and running AI agents in Python and TypeScript. It addresses the work of creating and controlling an agent loop by hand, adding lifecycle controls, tools, structured output, MCP integration, memory, sessions, guardrails, tracing, and evaluation in one package. Teams can use it with any model and cloud provider while keeping the app in their own process.
Key features
- Python and TypeScript SDK for building and running agent apps
- Lifecycle controls for turn limits, token budgets, cancellation, and stop reasons
- Tools, structured output, MCP, memory, sessions, and multi-agent patterns
- Model portability with guardrails, tracing, and evals across providers and clouds
Best for
Teams building production AI agents who need a single SDK across Python and TypeScript, and developers who want to keep control over model choice, cloud, and execution behavior.
