Overview

ftop is a native, floating system monitor for Apple Silicon Macs, intended to replace a terminal monitor with a compact desktop panel. It shows current CPU-core and GPU use and frequency, memory and pressure, network speeds, power, temperature, and busy apps, with helper processes grouped under their apps. Resize the window to switch layouts, and select a process for CPU, memory, and helper-process details. It shows live readings rather than history graphs or disk panels, and reduces monitoring when hidden or covered.

Key features

  • Shows per-core CPU and GPU usage and frequency.
  • Displays memory use and pressure, network speeds, power, and temperature.
  • Lists busy apps with helper processes grouped under them; selecting a process shows more details.
  • Adapts its layout as the panel is resized and reduces monitoring when hidden or covered.

Best for

Mac developers and other Apple Silicon users who want a compact, at-a-glance view of current system activity while builds or local workloads run.
